K-GCED Certification Programme
The K-GCED Certification Program of the Institute for Future Sustainable Development (IFSD) is a dual-track leadership initiative developed based on Korea’s development experience and UNESCO’s Global Citizenship Education (GCED) principles. Designed for both learners and educators, the program fosters the formation of global citizenship identity, strengthens core competencies, and cultivates leaders who drive sustainable social change through action-oriented civic engagement projects.

This program is structured as a two-level certification system, with separate tracks for learners and educators.


Certificate Level 1: Global Citizenship Certificate for Educators
The Global Citizenship Certificate for Educators is a professional development program designed for teachers, NGO trainers, development practitioners, and facilitators seeking to effectively implement Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in formal and non-formal learning settings. This program provides practical, comprehensive training that encompasses the theoretical foundations of GCED, culturally responsive pedagogy, learner-centered facilitation techniques, assessment strategies, and mentorship skills. It enables educators to foster learners’ civic identity, social responsibility, and active engagement.
Participants will gain hands-on experience in designing contextualized curricula, facilitating participatory classes, and evaluating learning outcomes, while building their own leadership as globally minded educators.
Learning Objectives
The program is structured around five core learning goals.
- Develop theoretical understanding of GCED values and relevant global policy frameworks such as SDG 4.7.
- Build instructional design competencies for contextualizing GCED across diverse cultural and regional contexts.
- Acquire participatory and learner-centered facilitation skills.
- Strengthen mentoring and peer coaching capacities to support sustainable GCED practice.
- Cultivate action research skills to contribute to educational innovation and the long-term dissemination of GCED.

1. GCED Pedagogy and Philosophy

2. GCED Facilitation Skills
- Curriculum contextualization methods rooted in local cultural and historical contexts

- Experiential methods: world café, circle dialogue, simulations
3. GCED Adaptability & Assessment
- Adapting teaching to diverse learners and modalities (offline, online, hybrid)
- Designing tools to assess identity formation, empathy, and civic behavior
- Promoting reflective learning through formative and self-directed assessment strategies
4. GCED Mentorship Modules
- Supervision: Strategies for guiding and supporting junior facilitators
- Peer Coaching: Building a feedback culture and collaborative teaching community
- Action Research: Designing and implementing classroom-based inquiry to improve GCED delivery
Capstone Activities: Action Research and Practice
Participants are encouraged to move beyond theory by implementing GCED practices in their own settings and generating real change. Key activities include:
